The perspective of an Emerging Model
From the point of view of the emerging model Eugenia López Fonta, balancing model work and her mental health is the key to staying focused, fulfilled & balanced.
"It's a complicated world, full of expectations, but if you know how to handle it well, it's wonderful, otherwise it can become a stressful hell.
From the age of 14, Eugenia used to do campaigns for small brands, although it never turned into something serious as she wanted to focus on other things.
Years later, a modelling agency contacted her to include her in their catalogue, but since she was not tall enough, the path was complicated.Elite Barcelona made an exception for her, and her career began.
She tells us about her experience from inside the world of fashion:
''It's a very demanding world, people think it's easy and silly, but a lot is demanded of us and the pressure can be unbearable. I've always had a slim build, although sometimes, like everyone else, our weight fluctuates due to external circumstances. I went through a rough patch personally and because of that, my weight was not what it had always been. The agency required me to do more sport and I was not mentally prepared to deal with the situation, it affected me a lot and I quit.
Little by little I got myself together and my mental situation improved. I started to see a psychologist and I started to see things from a more positive perspective. Later on, I came back to the agency and since then they have been supportive and understanding with the current situations individuals find themselves in.
I understood that this is the way the fashion world is, and gradually I have become more relaxed about the circumstances. The fact that a woman is expected to be perfect in all aspects is barbaric, because we are people and people are not perfect, and that is what makes us unique. For me, the fact that the fashion industry is becoming more inclusive and more respectful seems to me fundamental to increase the value of everyone, and from that point, to build a more positive society.
We need to understand, all of us, that having flaws is not a fault, but a virtue''.
